The Annual Visit

All we ask is that you bring your ring in once a year so we can clean it, look it over, and tend to anything that needs attention. This is the heart of the warranty. Most of what keeps a ring beautiful is small, regular care, and we'd rather catch a leaning prong now than rebuild a head later. We measure annual as a window of 12 months from your last visit.

If you've moved out of the area, we understand. Have a licensed jeweler with bench services do an annual inspection in your city and send us a receipt or short note confirming it. Your warranty stays fully active.

What is Covered

The small wear and tear that comes with a well loved ring. A loose prong tipped back up, center stone tightening, an accent stone reset, a fresh polish. The work that keeps your ring looking and feeling as it did the day it was finished.

If an accent stone under .50ct is ever lost because of a setting failure on our end, we'll replace it under warranty.

A typical annual visit involves one or two small repairs. That's the rhythm of a ring worn every day. When an inspection reveals more, it generally indicates wear beyond ordinary use, in which case additional service falls outside the warranty and is offered at the discretion of Lane & Kate.

At Lane & Kate, we're also always happy to offer a complimentary ring cleaning, anytime.

What is Not Covered

• Full Prong Retipping. Over years of everyday wear, the gold of your prongs slowly wears down through natural friction. A full retipping is typically needed every seven to ten years and is offered as a paid service rather than a warranty repair, since it reflects normal wear over time. Smaller prong work along the way, such as a loose prong tipped back up, remains covered.
• Sizing of Any Kind. This includes resizing the band, sizing beads placed inside, or solder work to keep bands together.
• Stone Loss from Impact. If the center stone is lost, this is treated as high impact damage and covered by your jewelry insurance, not the warranty. Accent stones .50ct or larger are also under your insurance. Smaller accents under .50ct individually are covered as noted above.
• Diamond and Gemstone Chipping or Breaking. Stones cannot be guaranteed against chipping or breaking over time of wear. The natural structure of each stone means damage can occur from impact or stress beyond what setting can prevent. This is why Lane & Kate strongly recommends insurance on the ring.
• Setting of Heirloom or Outside Stones. When we set a stone you've brought to us, whether an heirloom or any lab or natural stone purchased elsewhere, we handle it with the utmost care. We cannot, however, be responsible for chipping or breaking during the setting process. Stones with histories outside our shop often carry hidden stresses or fractures we cannot fully anticipate.
• Chemical and Activity Damage. Chlorine, hot tubs, harsh cleaners, and other everyday scenarios can wear on a ring over time. We'll always talk through care once the ring is received and at your annual visit if requested.
• Rhodium Plating. For white gold rings, rhodium plating is part of regular metal upkeep rather than a wear or craftsmanship issue, and is offered as a paid service when needed.

Major Damage

Significant impact, breakage, or any stone lost from impact is best protected by jewelry insurance, and we recommend every Lane & Kate piece be insured separately. (Your Value is noted on the Receipt of Value.)

Outside Jewelers

For our local clients, all work on your ring should be done by Lane & Kate. Repair or stone work done elsewhere voids your warranty. We can't vouch for what we didn't do. Out of state clients are the exception, since annual inspections by another qualified jeweler are part of how we keep things going.

Missed Years

Life happens. If you miss an annual visit, your warranty doesn't end. It pauses until you come back. Anything that wore down during the gap isn't covered, but everything from your return visit forward is, just as before.

Who is Covered

This warranty stays with the original purchaser and the original recipient. If your ring was a gift, both of you are covered. Beyond that, it does not transfer.

Outside or Heirloom Center Stones

When your center stone is purchased outside Lane & Kate or is an heirloom dear to you, your ring is covered by a three year warranty rather than the lifetime coverage above. The same care, the same conversations, the same standards apply. Only the timeframe changes, since we cannot fully account for the history of stones that came from beyond our shop.

Records

We keep notes on every piece we make, so when you come in we'll know your ring. Keep your Receipt of Value somewhere safe. It's useful for insurance and any future reference.

Returns, Exchanges, and Changes After Completion

Every Lane & Kate ring is fully custom and cannot be returned or exchanged. Throughout the design process we work closely with you, with renderings approved together at each stage. Once the finished ring matches the approved renderings, any later modifications or redesigns based on a change of heart are quoted as a separate project and are not covered by the warranty.
